Where are the planet's futures heading?
Global warming is confronting societies with urgent questions about their futures: On the one hand, the knowledge of steadily rising emissions and growing concerns about catastrophic tipping points give rise to hopes of a fundamental change in policy, while on the other, many people feel overwhelmed by their apparent powerlessness. In recent years, this has given rise to the need to make possible futures more tangible and easier to plan. As a result, planetary futures are not only increasingly being researched, but ways of influencing or fixing them are also being sought.
The catalog for the exhibition Fixing Futures. Planetary Futures between Speculation and Control addresses these efforts to predict futures and analyzes the tension between radical uncertainty and the desire for control. In a conversation between exhibition organizers, scientists and artists focusing on weather and climate control, planetary environmental problems, geoengineering and decolonial futures, visions of the future are presented and the importance of planetary approaches is highlighted.
